According to the cruise industry the average cruise ship today is over 950 feet long and accommodate about 2,900 people. Using the industry standard of two people per cabin that is 1,450 cabins. Now picture a cruise ship that is 145 feet long with 18 cabins and 36 passengers. That is UnCruise Adventures’ Safari Explorer.
Here is a layout of the ship.
We were in Cabin B14 (Read about it Here).
Because of the small size of this ship it goes to places large cruise ships can’t. As I mentioned in my Intro blog entry, our week was spent visiting parts of Hawaii that normally require you fly in a very small plane to and check in to yet another resort to see. The map below hangs on the wall going into the Salon on the Main deck and the crew writes on the glass each day or so updating where we are along with what we did. On any cruise the food is always a item of discussion. Well the ship, crew and passenger list may be small but we still had both a head chef and a pastry chef! We were well fed.
The early bird breakfast started things off. Fruit, yogurt and fresh pastries along with coffee or tea and a selection of juices. A full to order breakfast is served a little later, after yoga on the Bridge Deck.
Every meal had options, including a vegetarian version. The main dinner selection was often a fish dish, a beef dish or a chicken dish with sides, of course. (More details on the food soon.)
So what do you do on this cruise when you aren’t in your room or eating? Well it is called an Adventure cruise. Each day several activities are planned. They are all optional, and include kayaking, skiff tours, hikes, wildlife observation, swimming and tours ashore. (Again, more details soon.)
