We sat with 3 other couples in the dining room and I am happy to say we are now Facebook friends and over a year later we still chat and email. There are several different size tables and you are assigned based on your preferences.
The food on the American Queen is very good and is brought on board fresh regularly. One night we were offered Bananas Foster for dessert, the next morning we had some bananas on the breakfast buffet so that night at dinner we we all joking and wondered if we would be offered banana pudding or if all of the bananas had been eaten.
Breakfast and Lunch in the Dining room is available as both a buffet and menu order. The buffet is beautiful and omelettes made-to-order are available as you enter the dining room for breakfast.
The servers are very nice and personal but they are not invisible. We move out of their way as they remove the unused glasses (the table is set with 2 wine glasses and a water glass), used plates and cutlery. Wine and water glasses remain full but sometimes we need to wave them down to ask for something different.
Desserts are not on the menu, the server reads them to us from her phone-like device and we make our selection. The bar servers in the shows use these same devices to order our drinks.
Overall, we enjoyed all of the food and gained several pounds (obviously we didn’t use those complementary bicycles for touring and we didn’t visit the work-out room either).
